Asparagus is a member of the lily family, which includes leeks, garlic and onion, that is rich in folate.  Chi's Enterprise Asparagus Extract is rich in B Vitamins that help in maintaining healthy levels of homocysteine, which is produced in the blood when an amino acid (methionine) breaks down in the body. Vitamin B, especially folate, B6, and B12 play a key role in converting homocysteine into cysteine, which then gets converted back to methionine as per the normal methylation cycle to support cardiovascular health. Folate is also essential for the growth of the fetus during pregnancy.  In addition, vitamin B helps in maintaining healthy levels of blood sugar by ensuring proper metabolism of starches and sugars in the body.

Asparagus is an alkaline food known to provide healthy amounts of vitamins A, C and K, and it is one of the few vegetables that has the ideal 2:1 ratio of calcium and magnesium.  The key compounds responsible for its supplemental health benefits are called asparagosides, which support detoxification, immunity, kidney function and protects against damaging free radicals.  Asparagus also contains a high quantity of the antioxidant, Selenium.
